About The Position

Part clinician and part IT analyst, informatics specialists serve as the liaison between the technical department and the medical and clinical staff. They make sure that the computer applications used for clinical documentation are easy to use and provide useful information that caregivers can use on the job. Also, assess current and future technology needs for facilities and the potential impact of the technology on employees and business processes. The employee will assist with the development, implementation, training, evaluation, and maintenance of all Clinical Informatics projects. Coordinates and conducts orientation and ongoing education programs for personnel providing direct patient care. The employee is subject to call back as required by the hospital.

Requirements

Must be knowledgeable of new trends in clinical information systems, and be able to apply data processing technology for the clinical and physician services areas.
Must have skills and proficiency in the principles, concepts, and techniques of the healthcare profession. Such proficiency is acquired through the completion of a degree in nursing or other allied healthcare professions.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse as approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing for practice in the state of Tennessee.
Current licensure as approved by the Tennessee Dept of Health in another allied healthcare profession such as Respiratory Therapy, Radiation Technology, EMT, Paramedic, or Laboratory Technology.
Must have current skills in the healthcare field as evidenced by a minimum of 3 years of practice.
Knowledge of current legal guidelines and standards of care in the specialty areas.

Responsibilities

Develops and implements educational/training programs both for professional and non-professional staff that directly impact patient care.
Implement general new employee orientation programs as related to clinical documentation.
Coordinates and provides instruction of personnel in the use of equipment and supplies.
Represents hospital in community and professional development activities.
Assumes responsibility for own professional development by attending education programs and participating in other activities.
Implement education/training programs regarding electronic clinical documentation both for professional and non-professional staff that directly impact patient care.
Ability to utilize knowledge and skills of clinical practice to determine clinical functions that are suitable for computer application and to ensure the Information Systems are consistent with professional standards of clinical practice.
Ability to develop and organize educational training programs to ensure the proficiency within clinical service areas, applications are utilized for maximum efficiency, and users are informed of new updates and revisions.
Collaborates with health care professionals using automation to ensure appropriate, effective usage, and understanding of the system.
Assists in the completion of all phases of the project including analysis, testing, user training, documentation, implementation and follow up.
Contribute to a positive team environment.
Develop inter-departmental relationships.
Ability to give formal presentations at all levels.
