GENERAL OVERVIEW: The clinical informatics pharmacist oversees and facilitates use of current and future clinical information systems to drive medication management transformation across the enterprise to promote patient safety, support workflow, and optimize efficiency. This role participates in planning, research, development, implementation, and evaluation of pharmacy and clinical systems and services within the Allegheny Health Network. The clinical informatics pharmacist works through all phases of system development to effectively meet pharmacy and medication management best practice standards and ensure that information systems are consistent with professional standards and evidenced-based practice. This position will collaborate with the clinical system training department and provide curriculum design and primary training needs to pharmacy staff. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for oversight of pharmacy process redesign, metric design, and consultative services related to pharmacy clinical systems. Integrates effective use of technology with sound operational and financial practices to improve medication management processes and patient safety. Conducts current and future state analyses with clinical stakeholders; analyzes complex pharmacy operations processes for applicability and appropriateness, and develops an efficient workflow design to facilitate optimal decision making regarding clinical system use. Promotes standardization and implementation of pharmacy and medication management best practice initiatives identified by the enterprise. Creates, updates, and maintains training curriculum with input from pharmacy staff. Collaborates with instructional designers and pharmacy super users to develop training materials for pharmacy staff in the use of the clinical system and new workflows and functions as a primary trainer for pharmacy staff. Provides ongoing support to assigned clinical areas through consistent and scheduled rounding, preparing for scheduled downtimes, and "on-call" per policy. Participates in and works collaboratively on various teams and committees in order to provide insight and clarity about clinical processes, workflow redesign, and process standardization. Functions as a primary liaison between AHN pharmacy, clinical, and IT teams. Responsible for troubleshooting, investigation, analysis, training, documentation, and ongoing support of pharmacy clinical systems and other e-health initiatives. Maintains knowledge of trends and advances in the field of pharmacy and healthcare informatics. Assists in the development and modification of pharmacy operational policies and procedures relating to the utilization of the electronic health record, including downtime procedures. Travels to ambulatory and inpatient facilities, physician offices, and medical malls to meet with staff, conduct analysis and support implementation. Performs other duties as requested or required.
