About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track position as a Clinical Informaticist. This position has a unique focus on working with Medicaid as a policy consultant to expand care and improve health outcomes in Nevada. This position also includes a clinical service component and a teaching component as described below. The ideal candidate will demonstrate mission, vision and values alignment with UNR Med, Medicaid, and Renown Health. We value innovation, creativity, and commitment to improving health equity and access. Demonstrated ability to communicate across a spectrum of health literacy levels to a variety of audiences, build relationships with institutions such as Federally Qualified Health Centers and managed care centers, work collaboratively in a team as well as with external stakeholders, and proactively build and improve programs or projects to expand access to clinical care and education will be pivotal to success in the role. Additionally, individuals with first-hand experience on or with Medicaid that informs care, outreach, and community involvement is highly desired. Preferred experience in this role includes demonstrated aptitude using the Health Information Exchange, navigating and leveraging electronic medical records such as EPIC, working with large data sets, and comfort in structuring queries and creating automated reports. Coding language literacy and the ability to translate findings to a variety of stakeholders is critical to success in the role. Experience working in a large health system, navigating governmental and public policy, and working on population health improvement initiatives and/or quality and value assessments is desirable.

Requirements

  • MD, DO (or equivalent) Fellowship training (or equivalent) OR Board Certification in Clinical Informatics through an ABMS member board.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a clinical informatics consultant and advisor who provides medical and health services research expertise to the state Medicaid program.
  • Collaborate with UNR faculty, state Medicaid officials and data analytics staff to enable research projects that utilize population health data sources.
  • Provide clinical analysis and evaluation of health information and data for state Medicaid officials.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and support to state Medicaid officials in coordination with other programs at the University.
  • Support the state’s efforts to assess Medicaid recipient health needs, develop member risk scores, and identify gaps in care.
  • Develop data-driven recommended strategies for state Medicaid officials.
  • Develop recommendations for state Medicaid officials on how to support providers with the data and informatics needed.
  • Design new approaches to data collection and distribution in support of improved clinical outcomes and population health.
  • Develop specific education and training for students and other practitioners on the use of health information technology.
  • Review utilization management practices used in Medicaid and support the state in identifying opportunities to improve provider experience.
