The Workman School of Dental Medicine at High Point University is offering a one-year, full-time Oral Oncology Fellowship Program tailored for dentists aspiring to excel in oral oncology and the treatment of oral conditions in cancer patients. Candidates must possess a DMD, DDS or an equivalent degree such as BDS. Throughout the program, the fellows will engage in clinical training to assess, diagnose, and address oral diseases in cancer patients, with a strong emphasis on effective communication and collaboration within an interprofessional care framework involving dentists, mid-level providers, trainee physicians, and attending physicians. The clinical training will take place primarily at the affiliated cancer hospitals, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist at High Point, NC and Novant Health Cancer Institute at Winston-Salem, NC. The program objectives include developing a thorough understanding of oncology and its impact, fostering interprofessional teamwork, interpreting diagnostic tests within the context of oral oncology, providing safe and effective oral healthcare for oncology patients (including diagnosis and treatment of patients with benign or malignant lesions of the head and neck, pre-therapy oral evaluation prior to oncology therapy, and management of cancer therapy related oral complications), refining patient management skills, and educating both professional and lay communities on the vital link between oral and systemic health. Fellows will be allocated dedicated time for research endeavors and will be actively encouraged to seek out collaborative prospects. The educational framework of the fellowship encompasses various learning opportunities, including patient care in oral medicine and oral oncology clinics, inpatient consultation services, seminars, lectures, conferences, and involvement in research and scholarly activities. Overall, the fellowship aims to equip dentists with a solid foundation in oral oncology and a commitment to promoting oral health in the community. Candidates from non-English-speaking nations are required to submit an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score report. In one (1) single document, all candidates must submit a detailed curriculum vitae (CV), letter of intent and 2 letters of recommendation to [email protected].
