About The Position

The Clinical Ethicist role is responsible for providing and supporting clinical ethics consultation services and supporting the proactive integration of ethics into existing clinical care processes. Leveraging their operational and clinical ethics consultation expertise, this role provides support to unit based staff in response to complex ethics consultation cases and supports the integration of systemic approaches, processes, policies, education, and resources for clinical ethics specific to the needs of the Health Ministry. This role reports to the Region Vice President of Theology and Ethics and works in close collaboration with Region leaders as well as the Theology and Ethics Department at the CommonSpirit Health system office.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Health Care Ethics, Divinity, Theology, or Philosophical Ethics with master's level work in health care ethics/bioethics and/or Catholic Moral theology.
  • 1 year's experience with clinical ethics consultation, ethics committees, and ethics education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical ethics consultation both using prospective mechanisms and at the request of stakeholders in the primary Market.
  • Be available to assist throughout the Region as needed.
  • Support the development of the clinical ethics consultation infrastructure (Consultation EMR capture, Rounding, etc) necessary for effective and sustainable integration into clinical operations.
  • Identify and address educational needs of physicians, clinicians, and employees using both faith based and public bioethics moral frameworks.
  • Report to, and work closely with, the Region VP of Theology and Ethics and the Theology and Ethics Department at the CommonSpirit Health system office, to implement or maintain Region-wide ethics programs or initiatives at Region entities.
  • Support CommonSpirit Health and the local ministries by assuming any other responsibilities that are mutually agreed upon to ensure the effective functioning of the ministry.
  • Continue development of one's own professional skills and competencies necessary to fulfill the role of Clinical Ethicist in a way that contributes additional value to the operations of the Health Ministry.
