About The Position

The Clinical Ethics Fellow is an active member of the Ethics Program at Wellstar Health System and will train under experienced Wellstar Clinical Ethicists to develop competence and proficiency in performing clinical ethics consultations, providing ethics education to a diverse array of healthcare professionals, and reviewing and developing relevant ethics policy. The health system is creating a fully integrated, collaborative approach to addressing ethical issues, and the Clinical Ethics Fellow will play a key role in developing this initiative. The individual reports directly to the Supervisor of the Ethics Fellowship and has an essential role in the Ethics Program

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Applicable field, e.g., ethics, law, social work, anthropology.
  • Doctorate Applicable field, e.g., ethics, law, social work, anthropology. Will consider those with ABD in PHD programs
  • Computer Skills Medium Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint Medium
  • Communication Skills Medium

Responsibilities

  • Responds initially in conjunction with a WellStar Clinical Ethicist (and eventually independently) to health system ethics consultation requests
  • Analyzes and improves ethics consultation methods
  • Participates in bedside rounds.
  • Provides ongoing training, education, and evaluation of consult service members
  • Maintains case records, documentation of case consults in patients medical records, and ethics consultation database
  • Participates in ethics consultation service night and weekend coverage
  • Assists in the development of ethics consultation services within WellStar Health System
  • Reviews and revises system policies/guidelines as it relates to the Ethics Program with oversight from a WellStar Clinical Ethicist
  • Planning, delivery, and evaluation of ethics education for health care providers, residents, students, and the community
  • Development and implementation of ethics curricula for the full range of clinical and non-clinical employees
  • Attendance, participation, and leadership in monthly education curriculum for WellStar Clinical Ethics Fellows
  • Participate in Ethics Program Activities
  • Engage in Ethics Liaison Network, Ethics Grand Rounds, and Ethics Advisory Group
  • Engages in quality improvement activities to reduce ethics quality gaps, including development and evaluation of clinical ethics initiatives and materials
  • Creates and leads a quality improvement project as an integral part of the Fellowship
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
