About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer and in consultation with the Quality and Compliance Administrator, the Clinical Educator will design, plan, and implement clinical training programs and competencies to fulfill HHS needs. This position also oversees multiple HHS patient areas and directs all infection prevention related activities associated with surveillance, performance improvement, and education which are intended to ensure that the facility's patients, personnel and visitors will be protected from transmission of diseases and infection within the facility's environment as identified by accreditation and other Infection Prevention and Control certification agencies and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt and considered a non-driving position.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the history, culture, laws, rules, customs and traditions of the SRPMIC.
  • Knowledge of the purpose, current issues, projects, organization, policies, and employee responsibilities of the division to which assigned.
  • Knowledge of the history, culture, laws, rules, customs and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
  • Knowledge of learning theories, methods and techniques as they apply to training, assessment practices and on-the-job training.
  • Knowledge of Health Care policies and procedures including but not limited to AAAHC standards, HIPAA, IT Security and Privacy rules.
  • Proficient in technology including but not limited to MS Office Tools, Teams, SharePoint, and Video Tools for training, etc.
  • Skill in providing outstanding customer service.
  • Skill in effective project management techniques.
  • Skill in evaluating curriculum and courses and implementing evidence-based, standardized or criteria-based programs.
  • Skill determining what action is needed and taking initiative to successfully take the task from start to finish.
  • Skill in communication; demonstrating ability to analyze and evaluate information accurately and express ideas clearly, especially in the provision of verbal and written reports and recommendation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and using discretion in dealing with sensitive information.
  • Ability to anticipate obstacles to goal achievement and exercise resourcefulness in problem solving.

  • A Bachelor's degree in BSN Required and 5 years clinical experience in Nursing or healthcare field.
  • If candidate does not possess specific previous experience in Infection Prevention and Control, the candidate will be required to obtain IPC specific training within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in nursing or healthcare field, experience as an Infection Preventionist, experience training in EPIC.
  • Leadership experience (Manager, Clinical Educator, Preceptor).

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Educator:
  • Provides clinical and professional expertise as a leader, consultant, facilitator and change agent to support the organization in the provision of quality patient care.
  • Ensure the clinical competence of staff and foster the delivery of evidence-based practice.
  • Uses evidence-based practices and research that focuses on the knowledge and skills required to care for patients in the assigned areas including quality improvement, safety, and regulatory/accreditation requirements, and outcomes evaluation of programs, projects, education and training.
  • Supports the ongoing development of staff through coaching, mentoring, and role modeling.
  • Collaborates with members of leadership team in providing appropriate educational opportunities for licensed and unlicensed personnel.
  • Maintains an active rounding practice to "go and see" activities such as training initiatives in process, progress of orientee and preceptor dyads, how skills are applied in the clinical setting.
  • Completes a continuing education needs assessment using staff surveys, KPI outcome metrics, regulatory standards, and other data for area of assignment then plans, develops, conducts, and evaluates, mandatory and elective education and on-the-job training programs.
  • Conducts follow up assessments to ensure the training meets the employee's needs and that the desired behaviors are being exhibited.
  • Regularly teaches or facilitates new hire orientation, mentor, and preceptor programs which contribute to employee retention and engagement.
  • Serves as an expert consultant for staff in areas of program development, clinical practice, and professional development.
  • Executes tasks and behaves in a manner consistent with a culture of compliance, safety and a high reliability organization and adheres to organizational policies and procedures.
  • In collaboration with leadership contributes to and executes on the organization's process for defining, assessing, maintaining, demonstrating, and improving the competence of clinical staff on an ongoing basis linking competencies to unit performance measures or system outcomes.
  • Will act as a backup LMS administrator and assist primary LMS administrator with training course creation, competency creation, and reporting and tracking efforts.
  • Infection Prevention:
  • Responsible for the oversight of facilities compliance with Infection Prevention Accreditation Standards, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other Infection Prevention and Control certification agencies for the daily operations of the Infection Prevention Department.
  • Responsible for the ongoing assessment and development of training programs, policies, procedures and forms to address the Infection Prevention needs of employees, volunteers, contract workers, independent contractors, medical staff, registry workers and students in accordance with the guidelines established by relevant accreditation and regulatory agencies.
  • Develops and operationalizes the Infection Prevention Program's annual risk assessment, action plans and annual evaluations.
  • Responsible for HHS compliance with AAAHC accreditation regulations around IPC.
  • Accountable for reporting communicable diseases to appropriate health agencies as required.
  • Facilitates Infection Prevention and Control Committee and evaluates its effectiveness by coordinating information relative to surveillance findings, problem identification, and infectious incidence trends.
  • Plans and develops data collection, maintenance, and reporting systems for surveillance of facility associated infection exposure.
  • Documents problems and implements Infection Prevention measures in performance improvement projects.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental operations.
