Requirements

  • Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
  • Two (2) years of acute or urgent care nursing experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree if hired after November 3, 2024.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in nursing education, staff development, or clinical supervision.
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement educational programs and initiatives to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies of inpatient nursing staff.
  • Coordinate and conduct orientation programs for new nursing staff, ensuring a thorough understanding of policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide ongoing education and training on new clinical practices, technologies, and evidence-based guidelines to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Facilitate skills labs, workshops, and in-service training sessions to address identified learning needs and promote professional development.
  • Assist the Clinical Nurse Manager in overseeing daily operations of the nursing unit, ensuring adherence to standards of care, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance, support, and supervision to nursing staff, including performance feedback, coaching, and counseling as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Manager and support staff to address staffing needs, scheduling conflicts, and workload distribution to maintain optimal staffing levels and workflow efficiency.
  • Participate in performance evaluations and contribute to the identification of staff development opportunities and training needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical practices and patient care activities to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, committees, and task forces to drive continuous improvement in patient care outcomes and nursing practices.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of evidence-based protocols, guidelines, and quality measures to enhance patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration among interdisciplinary team members to promote a culture of teamwork, respect, and professionalism.
  • Serve as a liaison between nursing staff, management, and other departments to facilitate the exchange of information, resolve issues, and coordinate patient care activities.
  • Act as a resource and advocate for nursing staff, addressing concerns, promoting positive morale, and fostering a supportive work environment.
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care.
  • Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
