Summary: The Clinical Education Specialist is an advanced level RN position in clinical education that works to address staff educational needs within a specialty practice area, service and/or across the organization. Facilitates the professional development of licensed and unlicensed employees to enhance professional competency including (but not limited to) educational assessment, planning and outcome evaluation. Serves as subject matter expert in a lead capacity for organizational initiatives, including those in conjunction with hospital accreditation. Work may be performed collaboratively for multiple disciplines across the continuum of care or for a specific patient population or service area.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or one of compact states.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Five (5) years of experience working in a critical care setting as a registered nurse,
  • Direct certification and work experience as relevant to educational areas expected for instruction.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in nursing, education or related field highly preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Recent educator experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with orientation of clinical staff, to the electronic health record and the required documentation.
  • Evaluates and assesses clinical competencies for clinical staff; provides instruction to staff for competency development. Completes appropriate forms as required.
  • Demonstrates professional leadership in nursing practice and serves as a role model to staff members providing clinical care, including RNs, LPNs, and CMAs. Engages in other projects and functions upon request.
  • Maintains/updates training manuals, promoting standardized, quality care. Attends and participates in departmental clinical staff meetings as requested by the departmental leadership; presents standardized materials to clinical staff and/or managers as necessary. Functions as a staff nurse when training and/or other initiatives are not in progress, or when directed.
  • Conducts and/or coordinates access to educational programs for clinical staff as needed. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate educational needs of staff within clinical areas.
