About The Position

The Clinical Education Coordinator for Health Information Technology at Shelton State Community College is responsible for providing quality classroom instruction and coordinating student clinical assignments. This role involves teaching courses, maintaining academic records, and ensuring effective learning experiences while supporting the mission of the community college and the Health Services Division.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge of entry-level and advanced health information technology skills
  • Knowledge of specialized HIT software and medical coding systems (ICD-10 CM/PCS, CPT-4)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential
  • Three (3) years of practice experience in health information field

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Teaching experience in a health information technology program at the postsecondary level

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate all Health Information student clinical assignments
  • Teach courses as assigned by the Program Director
  • Design and deliver each course ensuring an effective learning experience
  • Submit a course plan for each course taught in accordance with college guidelines
  • Provide instruction for Program courses in the day, evening, or online
  • Implement effective use of current technology and appropriate equipment in instruction
  • Inform students concerning course requirements and academic progress
  • Evaluate the learning experience of each student
  • Maintain necessary attendance and personnel records
  • Participate in institutional and departmental planning and assessment processes
  • Assist with program accreditation requirements
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and work ethics
  • Participate in recruiting for the Program
  • Serve as a college liaison with the health information community
  • Assist the Program Director with developing and managing the departmental budget
  • Advise students regarding academic course offerings
  • Seek continuous quality improvement of the Health Information Program curriculum
  • Participate in college events and functions
  • Post and maintain regular office hours
  • Participate in faculty and division meetings
  • Submit a Professional Growth Plan for approval prior to pursuing advancement in rank
  • Assist in the development of the departmental class schedule
  • Comply with policies of the Alabama Community College System
  • Serve on College committees as required
  • Participate in professional development and training activities
