Make a Difference The Clinical Documentation Specialist nurse facilitates modifications to clinical documentation through interaction with physicians and members of the interdisciplinary team (attending physicians, allied health practitioners, bedside nursing, consultants). Evaluates, facilitates, and obtains appropriate provider documentation for any clinical conditions or procedures to support the appropriate severity of illness, expected risk of mortality, and complexity of care of the patient. The goal is to provide each patient with an accurate and specific medical record that clearly communicates the assessment, treatment rendered (sometimes requiring consult orders) and outcome of that treatment, and to provide information to any subsequent providers or caregivers at the next site of care.

Requirements

  • Applicants for this position should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in organization and planning
  • working knowledge of quality improvement theory and practice
  • knowledge of federal, state and private payer regulations
  • Ten years advanced clinical experience in an acute inpatient setting, including 3 recent years as a critical care nurse required.
  • 2 year / Associate Degree \: Graduate of National League for Nursing (NLN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited school of nursing - required.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS) or Coding experience preferred.
