About The Position

The Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) is responsible for the analysis of case mix comparison to identify clinical documentation gaps for the purpose of education and communication to physicians and hospital leadership. Review admissions concurrently to identify an initial working Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) and ensure completeness and accuracy of the medical record. This role will work with other team members to develop educational plans for documentation improvement, clinical, and organizational development. Requirements

  • Master's Degree and No Experience necessary/On-the-Job Training. Pediatric (preferred) clinical experience or coding utilizing ICD-10, PCS and CPT codes. CDIS Certification education can count towards related experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years experience. Pediatric (preferred) clinical experience or coding utilizing ICD-10, PCS and CPT codes. CDIS Certification education can count towards related experience.
  • Associate's Degree and 5-7 years experience. Pediatric (preferred) clinical experience or coding utilizing ICD-10, PCS and CPT codes. CDIS Certification education can count towards related experience.
  • HS diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years experience. Pediatric (preferred) clinical experience or coding utilizing ICD-10, PCS and CPT codes. CDIS Certification education can count towards related experience.
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • One of the following required upon hire: Licensed Practical Nurse MO Licensed Practical Nurse KS Registered Health Information Technician Registered Health Information Administrator Certified Pediatric Nurse Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri

Responsibilities

  • Conducts concurrent review for documentation integrity and working diagnosis-related group (DRG) assignment.
  • Conducts focus review of facility KPI trends.
  • Performs analytical review of identified areas of opportunity.
