About The Position

The Clinical Documentation Integrity Supervisor assists the CDI Manager in supervising day-to-day operations for Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists supporting assigned clients. The CDI Supervisor is directly responsible for daily CDI assignments and staffing adjustments to ensure adequate coverage and to monitor productivity, utilization, compliance, key performance indicators (KPIs), and monthly quality audits. The CDI Supervisor works collaboratively with the facility CDI team to meet contractual obligations and achieve CDI best-practice metrics. This role assists in developing and updating CDI policies and procedures and ensuring efficient use of CDI technology. The CDI Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the CDI team has the tools needed to complete concurrent record reviews and to initiate and follow up on queries. The CDI Supervisor escalates issues as needed to the appropriate management team members and collaborates with facility team members and departments as required.

Requirements

  • Requires a University Degree in Nursing or MD and or MBBS
  • At least one of the following: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, MD or MD Equivalent, RN. At least one is required
  • CCDS, CCS,CDIP Must maintain credential while employed.
  • Requires at least 5 years acute care hospital CDI experience.
  • Requires at least 2 years prior management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Expert knowledge/experience in managing Clinical Documentation Improvement Team
  • Ability to assess and identify potential health system opportunities in regard to contractual and best practice CDI metrics
  • Assist in the development of processes and initiatives designed to improve clinical documentation performance
  • Strong project management skills
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and collaborate with medical staff, clinical departments and key facility leadership team members as needed
  • Maintains and demonstrates strong knowledge of CDI and coding process best practices
  • Drives optimal use of the CDI technology tool and reporting capabilities.
  • Ensures CDI team accountability for key performance indicators
  • Leads by example and promotes teamwork by fostering a positive, transparent, and focused work environment to achieve optimal results.
  • Cultivates strong working relationships with the facility leadership team (HIM Director, Coding team, Case Management, Quality, and Medical Staff), resulting in support for and participation in CDI initiatives.
  • Provides daily CDI program oversight, including productivity, quality, education and training, auditing, report management, performance improvement initiatives, and the development of standardized practices, processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Serves as an advocate for the CDI best-practice model by linking accurate capture of documented bedside care to accurate coded data, supporting correct reporting, facility and provider profiling, and acuity capture.
  • Assists with CDI technology implementation as required.
  • Maintains a clear working knowledge of the CDI technology tool, including data entry, report generation, and tracking methods, to ensure consistent and accurate data input.
  • Identifies issues with technology interface feeds/files; submits service tickets to the vendor; and works collaboratively with vendor technical support, facility IT, and/or Guidehouse IT to resolve technology-related issues.
  • Build knowledge and understanding in evolving areas such as coding guidelines, DRG payer groups, clinical documentation trends, and clinical quality and safety measures.
  • Communicates and escalates program updates, risks, and needs to the CDI Manager and/or Director in a timely manner, and actively works to resolve issues and mitigate risk.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with client staff, the physician base, and other Guidehouse team members.
  • Assists with interviews and new-employee onboarding to ensure sufficient training.
  • Perform quarterly check-in and end of year performance evaluation
  • Responsible for timesheet approval and project utilization tracking
  • Demonstrates an understanding of CDI and its impact on Revenue Cycle
  • Perceived by the client as a lead person for the CDI Solution.
  • Active participation in recruiting process
  • Provides regular status updates to VP Operations, CDI Manager/Director and facility Department Directors.
  • Demonstrates solid facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrates effective listening skills.
  • Ability to identify and articulate project obstacles/ issues and determine potential solutions while working collaboratively.
