About The Position

Responsible for providing clinical leadership, fostering superior quality patient care, developing dental strategic goals and direction, and providing for the recruitment and retention of the dental staff. Administers KANA's dental program and directs departmental activities in accordance with accepted national standards and administrative policies. Independently provide dental and oral health care consistent with the highest recognized standards of clinical dentistry and the dental profession.

Requirements

  • DDS/DMD.
  • Five (5) years of demonstrated success in dental clinic management.
  • DDS/DMD with a valid State of Alaska license.
  • If unlicensed, must be able to obtain State License within 6 months of date of hire.

  • Continually strives to improve patient experience and quality of care by focusing on optimal patient access, continuity, team-based care, clinical information systems, patient self-management, and community engagement.
  • Collaborates with the Health Services Officer, Clinic Operations Director and other clinic management to ensure smooth operation of clinic and programs.
  • Supports the Quality Management Committee to ensure that all aspects of the Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance program are properly developed, implemented and coordinated.
  • Participates in the quality assurance review process as outlined in the KANA Dental Clinic Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Supports Dental EHR maintenance, utilization and improvement.
  • Develops, reviews, and revises dental care related policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, colleagues, and other KANA staff.
  • Monitors and maintains the established protocol for patient referrals within and outside the tribal health system.
  • Collaborates with leadership to develop and support administration of department budget.
  • Maintains documentation and reporting measures of prevention activities.
  • Manages the Dental Hygiene professional staff to generate an increased level of Periodontal Health within the service population.
  • Observes and assists staff members to ensure safe and ethical practices.
  • Coaches, mentors, and trains dental staff by setting clear expectations and setting professional development goals for dental staff.
  • Provides comprehensive preventive Dental Services to Alaska Natives and other Beneficiaries of KANA.
  • Performs all aspects of that fall within a General Dentist's technical and educational expertise.
  • Performs accurate and timely document entry and chart maintenance as outlined in the KANA Dental Clinic Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Attends and/or completes all regulatory compliance training assigned by KANA administrative staff.
  • Coordinates and participates in community outreach programs, serves on KANA committees, and prepares reports and other documentation as directed, assigned, or required.
  • Represents KANA in a positive and respectful manner assisting in the promotion and maintenance of good public relations among community groups and professional organizations.
  • Pursues professional growth and development through continuing education and other avenues to remain current in the improvements in the field of dentistry.
  • Regularly travels by small plane to provide dental services to the village communities as assigned.
