About The Position

The Clinical Dietitian at UVMMC is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for delivering evidence-based medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to both inpatient and outpatient populations across designated units and programs. This role encompasses conducting comprehensive nutrition assessments, prescribing individualized nutrition interventions, performing nutrition-focused physical examinations, and meticulously documenting patient care in adherence to departmental and organizational policies. The dietitian works in close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, contributing to clinical decision-making, treatment planning, and discharge coordination. A significant aspect of the position involves providing nutrition education to a diverse audience, including patients, their families, healthcare professionals, students, and community members. Furthermore, the Clinical Dietitian serves as a clinical preceptor for dietetic interns, ensuring compliance with ACEND standards and institutional affiliation agreements. Active participation in unit-based care rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and continuous professional development is expected, all aimed at advancing nutritional care and promoting overall health and wellness throughout the continuum of care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and/or Masters Degree in Nutrition or Dietetics
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and Vermont State Certification as a dietitian required within 90 days of hire
  • Proof of RD eligibility or Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field, with completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics and supervised practice experience accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND)
  • Proof of Registered Dietitian (RD) eligibility or completion of national registration and Vermont certification must be provided at the start of employment with UVM Medical Center
  • Proven experience providing medical nutrition therapy to diverse patient populations including acute inpatients requiring oral, enteral, and parenteral nutrition support
  • Skilled in conducting comprehensive nutrition assessments using age-appropriate standards and validated tools to accurately diagnose and develop individualized care plans
  • Experience managing therapeutic diets for inpatient and outpatient populations across the lifespan
  • Demonstrated cultural competence in delivering patient centered care to diverse populations
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills within interdisciplinary healthcare teams
