Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or comparable major.
  • Successful completion of coordinated program or dietetic internship of not less than 900 hours under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian.
  • Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration; candidates eligible for registration may be hired with the expectation that registration will be achieved within 90 days of hire.
  • Licensed dietitian/nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition; provision for license-eligible dietitians as above.

Nice To Haves

  • One year in an acute care environment preferred; experience may be waived for specific positions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a comprehensive nutrition assessment for patients in the Duke Pediatrics Healthy Lifestyles Program (HLP) and for Duke General Pediatrics referrals.
  • Provide culturally appropriate medical nutrition therapy (MNT) specific to pediatric obesity and related co-morbidities, as well as for the various Duke General Pediatrics referrals (poor weight gain, picky eating / ARFID, disordered eating, vegetarian / vegan diets, etc.)
  • Complete all required documentation associated with patient encounter (nutrition history, assessment and specifics of MNT) into the EPIC electronic medical record system.
  • Accurately complete encounter billing and close the note within the required 48-hour time frame.
  • Develop, review/update and implement educational materials to meet the needs of HLP and General Pediatrics patients and their families.
  • Identify and link patients with community programs to assist with food insecurity needs.
  • Communicate effectively with HLP interdisciplinary team regarding coordination of patient care
  • Maintain registered dietitian (RD) status, including 75 hours of continuing professional education every 5 years as per the Professional Development Portfolio.
  • Precept dietetic interns/ nutrition students as able based on volume of other learners rotating through the clinic.  Participate in education of scheduled medical providers and learners regarding medical nutrition therapy for pediatric weight management.
  • Attend weekly team brown bag sessions. Attend and participate in monthly HLP team meetings.
  • Complete additional tasks, projects, etc.as needed, including but not limited to:  serving as a nutrition resource for Bull City Fit, writing grants for purchase of nutrition resources to enhance clinic experience, participation in community nutrition programming, assisting with clinic food pantry, etc.
  • Maintain adequate supply of patient education materials to meet daily needs.
  • Complete all required annual training within the Duke Learning Management System (Duke LMS), by the designated due dates.
  • Maintain provider credentialing with PRMO Provider Enrollment staff for program reimbursement.
  • Complete quarterly Council for Affordable Quality Heatlhcare (CAQH) recertification in a timely manner.
  • Submit monthly time away reports, within the Duke at Work system by the due date
