Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years dietary experience in a health care facility, with concentration in nutritional in nutritional assessment and planning.
  • Current Registration with the American Dietetic Association (RD or RDN) or similar organization and licensure per state of practice required

Responsibilities

  • Dietician approves menus including modified diets, provides nutritional assessments for patients as needed, and provides counsel to patients and their families on dietary plans, food selections, preparation, and nutritional principles.
  • The Dietician monitors the performance improvement plans of the Dietary Services department and provides input in the development and implementation of patient care plans in relation to nutritional needs.
  • Consult with patients and family members concerning dietary needs and goals.
  • May instruct patients and/or families regarding diet therapy programs.
  • Coordinate Dietary Services Department with JCAHO standards for food service and assist Dietary Manager as needed
  • Plan modified diets for patients as requested by attending physician/licensed practitioner.
  • Communicate to Dietary team in a timely manner.
  • Perform nutritional assessments in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and document patient care in regard to therapeutic diets.
  • Review patients’ charts to determine need for nutritional assessments.
  • Document patient charts with nutritional planning, and update as changes in nutritional needs occur.
