About The Position

DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation's largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research. RIM also operates 31 outpatient sites throughout southeast Michigan specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics. The position reports to the Director of DMC Nutrition Services and involves conducting nutrition assessments for patients identified at nutritional risk to determine appropriate nutrition therapy plans. The role includes evaluating medical history, medication history, anthropometric measurements, lab values, and diet history, while considering age-specific factors, cultural practices, and barriers to learning. Nutrition Care Plans are developed based on assessed needs, and the assessment is completed using a multi-disciplinary approach with input from various medical staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition/Dietetics.
  • Dietetic Internship in a healthcare setting or completion of a supervised practice program.
  • Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics or registry eligible, passing the registry exam within 6 months of internship completion.
  • Registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required if working with patients with inherited metabolic disorders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct nutrition assessments for patients identified at nutritional risk.
  • Evaluate patients' medical history, medication/herbal supplement history, anthropometric measurements, lab values, and diet history.
  • Develop Nutrition Care Plans specific to patients' identified needs.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and provide education on nutrition-related topics.
  • Research and develop programs for dietetic interns.
  • Participate in research projects and nutrition-related programs.
  • Work with outside agencies to obtain ongoing assistance for patients.
  • Maintain hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Inventory and order office and tube feeding supplies.
  • Monitor and direct foodservice personnel to ensure optimal nutritional food service.
  • Formulate special recipes or plans to meet specific patient needs.
  • Promote guest relations and maintain good customer service.
