Under the general direction of the Director of Clinical Nutrition, the Clinical Dietitian plans, directs and provides nutritional care to patients of all ages (neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult, geriatric). Core Competencies Assesses patients nutritional status/nutrition risk status. Assesses and monitors nutrition support (enteral and parenteral) making appropriate recommendations. Develops nutrition care plans (interventions) and establishes outcome criteria for patients as part of the multi-disciplinary patient care team. Provides nutrition education to both in and outpatients. Identifies the nutritional needs of various age groups (pediatrics, adults, geriatrics) and recommends appropriate nutrition intervention specific to those age groups. Documents nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation/goals in the electronic medical record per department policy. Supervises and directs the work of the Dietetic Technician and acts as a resource person. Participates in patient care rounds and committees. Interprets, evaluates and utilizes current research data. Participates in performance improvement projects and community events when warranted. Demonstrates knowledge of clinical norms for all age groups as applicable to job functions. Provides in-depth nutrition assessment, intervention, monitoring, and evaluation of pediatric patients and/or families. Provides consultation on Medical Nutrition Therapy to all staff providing care to pediatric patients. Participation in pediatric case conferences and discharge planning activities
