About The Position

The position provides both primary and relief nutrition management services across all assigned units, including the ICU. The role involves participation in interdisciplinary patient care rounds, performance improvement initiatives, clinical pathway development, and various committees. The nutrition management services include patient screening, nutrition assessment, and nutrition care-planning, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles over the lifespan and the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's age-specific needs. The position also requires recommending and implementing diet therapy and nutrition support modalities, conferring with medical and nursing staff to coordinate patient nutritional care, and participating in medical rounds and conferences. Additionally, the role includes conducting nutrition in-services for medical staff, monitoring patient progress, developing follow-up recommendations, counseling patients and families on appropriate diet and nutrition practices, documenting patient care activities, and ensuring continuity of care by communicating with appropriate nutrition personnel. The position also involves participating in department operations related to clinical responsibilities, completing quality assurance reports, assisting in training new staff, and maintaining current knowledge of advancements in the field through various educational programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an American Dietetics Association approved program in Dietetics with completion of an internship required.
  • Less than 1 year of previous experience providing nutrition therapy in a clinical setting, preferably in acute care (as obtained in dietetics internship) required.
  • Dietitian DC DOH - DIETDC required.
  • RD - Registered Dietician by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required.
  • If licensed in another state, DC licensure must be applied for at time of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nutrition management services including patient screening, nutrition assessment, and nutrition care-planning.

  • Recommends and implements diet therapy and nutrition support modalities.
  • Confers with medical and nursing staff to coordinate patient nutritional care.
  • Participates in medical rounds and conferences.
  • Conducts nutrition in-services for medical staff, including residents and nurses.
  • Monitors patient progress and develops follow-up recommendations for nutrition care.
  • Counsels patients and families on appropriate diet and nutrition practices relevant to medical conditions.
  • Documents patient care activities in medical records.
  • Communicates patient care information to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participates in department operations related to clinical responsibilities.
  • Completes department quality assurance reports as required.
  • Assists in training Hospitality Assistants and newly hired staff nutritionists.
  • Attends meetings and conferences, utilizes library resources, and reviews professional journals to maintain current knowledge.
