Requirements

  • Associate degree in Dietetic Technology or Bachelors’ degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy in business and nutrition software applications preferred

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years’ clinical nutrition experience in acute or long-term care preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides medical nutrition therapy to patients within the scope of practice of the registered dietetic technician.
  • Completes nutrition evaluations on assigned patients.
  • Provides diet education for patients and families.
  • Works in Call Center as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Accurately manages position paperwork (workload documentation, EMR documentation, meal order call log, etc.).
  • Follows correct hand hygiene procedures (sanitizes hands before and after entering patient rooms and before wrapping silverware, washes hands as needed, etc.).
  • Utilizes appropriate scripting and responds to patient/internal and external customers (effectively uses HEAL principle, interacts effectively with medical and ancillary staff, patients and families, able to describe menu item ingredients, etc.)
  • Effectively and safely uses position equipment, performing applicable cleaning/sanitation procedures (cleans high touch surfaces per guidelines, able to problem-solve software and printer malfunctions, etc.).
  • Uses electronic patient medical record (EPIC) and patient menu software (VST) correctly.
  • Able to accurately evaluate patient population utilizing appropriate evidence-based documentation through the nutrition care process (identifies and implements intervention, develops effective plan of care, etc.).
  • Utilizes nutrition care process to counsel patient population regarding nutrition-related diseases.
  • Correctly manages room service meal selections (able to negotiate with patient to optimize patient satisfaction while adhering to diet order, maintains near 100% accuracy in processing patient meal orders, prioritizes patient calls to optimize patient satisfaction, etc.).
