About The Position

The Data Manager's primary responsibilities are to develop and maintain data collection tools and data governance processes (data stewardship, data management best practices, data standards) of clinical data sets or clinical data registries in support of outcomes assessment, clinical, scientific, and hospital administrative goals. The Data Manager will design, develop, and test data collection tools. The Data Manager will oversee the accuracy of data entry functions, audit checking, and the data validation process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • At least one (1) year data management experience Required
  • Possesses strong computer and word processing, spreadsheet statistical, and database software application skills (Microsoft Office, Visual Basic, Business Objects, SQL, SAS or SPSS).
  • Have a working knowledge of tools to build simple databases and electronic data collection tools.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one (1) year data management experience in healthcare environment Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with clinicians and administrative staff to understand their specific needs and quickly and independently translate these into specific deliverables (e.g. forms, queries, and reports).
  • Build and maintain data dictionaries for patient cohorts, specialty care divisions, and study databases.
  • Designs CRFs, databases, and clinical database structures for data acquisition and responsible for the development and implementation of new/expanded databases (database design specifications, validation specifications, report specifications, bug fixes/enhancements, test scripts, etc.).
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of data standards, policies, and data collection procedures (standard operating procedures) related to data management activities.
  • Performs regular queries and reports to efficiently identify outstanding-inaccurate data collection (e.g. assesses and reports on data outlier values and null fields)
  • Defines data handling conventions for clinical data registries: edit checks, quality acceptance, and auditing criteria for data elements as well as procedures for handling exceptions for violations to the various clinical registry data standards.
  • Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions.
  • Work closely with clinical champions and data registry owners to ensure that data collection staff resolve errors in timely and accurate fashion (e.g. this often includes escalation (policing) or follow-up of requests to supervisors or clinical leaders).
  • Follow policies and procedures governing the handling of confidential information as defined by CHOP and applicable laws and regulations.
