NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Clinical Data Abstractor (Registered Nurse) - Full Time, Days - Performance Improvement. The Performance Improvement is responsible for collecting and analyzing data for selected studies and Core Measures; presenting clear, concise and accurate reports and conclusions; and supporting medical staff departmental and peer review committees. To be effective in this position appropriate referrals and the accurate identification of variances is required.

Requirements

  • Current NYS Nurse License required.
  • BS or MS preferred.
  • Previous relevant experience may be substituted for advanced degree.
  • Must have a minimum 2-4 years experience in a hospital clinical setting.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently, uses good judgement in decision making and accesses resources effectively
  • Demonstrates ability to collect and analyze data and to prepare effective, accurate reports.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) to all audiences. All communication is assertive, influential and credible which contributes to establishing trusting professional relationships.

  • Possesses above average documentation skills including computer literacy (Microsoft Office, electronic medical record and specialized software)
  • Maintains current knowledge of CQI processes.
  • Maintains privacy of employee and patient information.
  • Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS

Responsibilities

  • Supports Medical Staff Departmental and Peer Review Meetings
  • Develops clear, concise and accurate abstracts of cases for peer review.
  • Maintains minutes in SoftMed and in binders
  • Provides timely, accurate support to Medical Staff Committees as assigned to include agendas, minutes, reports and follow-up correspondence
  • Works with Medical Staff Chairmen and staff to assure timely and effective completion of medical reviews
  • Attends all meetings as assigned
  • Abstracts and Analyzes Data from Medical Records
  • Data abstraction meets data validation goals for accuracy and timeliness requirements
  • Analysis of data is based on acceptable practices, objective and supports the development of meaningful and realistic action plans
  • Ability to check for data errors
  • Prepares Reports
  • Generates accurate, timely, concise reports
  • Utilizes computer software effectively in the preparation of reports
  • Uses acceptable grammar and syntax in all reports
  • Serves, Manages and Supports All Internal and External Customers
  • Maintains privacy of all patient and employee information
  • Maintains positive working relationships throughout the organization to meet internal and external customer needs
