About The Position

The Clinical Coordinator organizes, directs and ensures effective operations of the assigned units, taking into account the effects of her decisions on the 24 hour operation of the unit. This individual participates with managers in hiring, providing corrective action, and doing formal evaluation of employees. The Clinical Coordinator uses independent judgment in problem solving, takes necessary action to resolve issues, organizes workflow, assigns employees and participates in budget planning and compliance. This individual maintains clinical competency and participates in direct patient care on an episodic basis to assist in times of high census, as a consult to staff, or in response to emergency situations. Demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.

Requirements

  • Registered nurse with BSN or other health related bachelor’s degree.
  • RN currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree will be considered.
  • RN with appropriate critical care, step down or medical cardiology nursing experience and leadership experience who commits to entering a baccalaureate program within two years of hire will be considered.
  • Current BCLS, and DIM certification, ACLS preferred
  • Nursing experience in an acute care setting specifically critical care, step down or medical cardiology nursing experience including telemetry monitoring interpretation.
  • Experience and demonstrated expertise in medical surgical nursing.
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic communication and customer service principles.
  • Demonstrated awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and policies related to confidentiality.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer literacy with the ability to learn applications.
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpretation of telemetry monitoring.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities in clinical situations.
  • Demonstrated leadership in planning and problem solving..
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a calm professional demeanor in critical situations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors work flow and makes appropriate changes.
  • Chairs unit committees and task forces.
  • Participates on assigned leadership initiatives/committees.
  • Ensures appropriate scheduling and utilization of staff.
  • Assists in budget planning and monitoring.
  • Participates in strategic planning to improve patient outcomes.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance measures and in planning and implementing identified improvements.
  • Coaches, mentors, encourages and motivates employees to work together as an effective team. Integrates continual performance improvement into the structure and processes of the unit and the daily practice of team members to achieve desired clinical and fiscal outcomes. Aligns all unit activities with unit, department, and institution performance improvement goals, and channels resources to high leverage opportunities for performance improvement.
  • Review productivity tools. Review monthly budget reports. Review quarterly productivity reports. Participates in benchmarking activities.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service in all contacts with internal and external customers. Participate in forming and implementing plans to improve employee satisfaction. Supports Covenant’s Patient Centric Commitment, The Compact Between Covenant HealthCare and its Medical Staff, and the pursuit of High Reliability. Intervenes in potential problematic interactions involving staff, physicians, patients and visitors and communicates with team members, involving the managers appropriately.
  • Coordinates communication with the care team of physicians, nursing staff, social work.CRM, and anxillary departments.
  • Coordinates with Adminstrative Shift Coordinator as necessary for staffing and patient care issues.
  • Communicates consistently with patient services managers and anxillary department Coordinators and Managers.
  • Intervenes as needed in situations involving patient’s family and visitors.
  • Communicates with other hospital departments to provide for the needs of staff and patients (eg, ECC, Surgical Services, Employee Health, HR).
  • Responsible for scheduling and staffing, including adjusting staffing as census/acuity changes within her assigned shift. Makes decisions for the utilization of human resources to provide safe patient care and adhere to fiscal responsibility. Makes patient placement decisions. Communicates with Critical Care, Step Down, and Medical Cardiology managers appropriately.
  • Under the direction of the Critical Care, Step Down, and Medical Cardiology managers, shares supervisory responsibility with other charge nurses on her shift to observe and evaluate staff performance, participate in the administration of corrective action, and provide needed development of staff.
