About The Position

Recovery Network of Programs, Inc. (RNP), is a private, non-profit, social service agency which has been serving the Greater Bridgeport Community and Fairfield County area since 1972. RNP is dedicated to helping those living with substance use, mental health disorders, and homelessness. Our mission is to restore hope, health, and wellbeing for individuals and families in a recovery environment that embraces compassion, dignity and respect. First Step (Residential Detoxification Program) This is a highly structured inpatient medically monitored detoxification program located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This program offers individual counseling, group therapy, case management, referral services for continuing care, and medical management. First Step is a CARF accredited, DPH licensed 27 bed residential detox unit for individuals aged 18 and over struggling with addiction to alcohol, opiates and/or benzodiazepines. HOURS This position requires a regular, established onsite schedule totaling 40 hours per week, with some evening and weekend hours as program needs require. When not on-site, the role includes 24/7 on-call phone coverage. While limited flexibility may be permitted, the schedule must be consistent, meet program and operational needs, and receive prior approval from the Department Head and Program Director. SUMMARY In accordance with RNP's Mission Statement, Philosophy of Client Care, and Code of Ethics as stated in the Personnel Policies, and under the supervision of the Program Director, provides general direction and supervision to departmental staff and oversees the management of assigned client caseloads of clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health symptoms.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in behavioral health or similar discipline – required.
  • Current State of CT Clinical License (LADC, LCSW, LPC, LMFT)
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience required. Supervisory experience in addiction and/or mental health counseling strongly preferred.
  • Experience in applying the principles and techniques of counseling, crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and case management.
  • Understanding of and ability to provide integrated care for clients with co-occurring disorders.
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and evaluate information pertinent to the care of clients.
  • Knowledge of the physical, psychological, social, and economic effects of substance use disorders, homelessness, and mental illness.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships. Excellent communication skills. Ability to project a professional image.
  • Demonstrates and applies working knowledge of the standards of the 1115 Substance Use Disorder Waiver, DPH, CARF, and other applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies.

  • Current State of Connecticut license in any of the following fields: Professional Counseling (LPC), Social Work (LCSW) or Drug and Alcohol Counseling (LADC) Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT).
  • Valid Connecticut driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises counselors by utilizing appropriate management techniques. Provides day-to-day direction, scheduling, training, staff supervision sessions, crisis management, planning, and counselors’ evaluations.
  • Conducts documented clinical supervision in accordance with RNP policy and the 1115 Substance Use Disorder Demonstration Waiver.
  • Oversees and supports counselors’ treatment relationships with their assigned caseload of clients in individual, psycho-educational, and relapse prevention group sessions.
  • Schedules counselor and coverage employee weekly work-schedules (nurses included). On-call duties for clinical day-to-day facility procedures and client issues. Maintain daily floor presence among staff and clients.
  • Keeps records and provides reports. Reviews management of cases, case problems, issues, and methods of treatment. Reviews chart assignments; treatment plans, individual notes, and legal documentation.
  • Works in close collaboration with nurses, physicians, psychiatric staff, and other healthcare personnel for inpatient evaluation and treatment.
  • Assists the Program Director in long-range planning for quality improvement and staff management. Maintains a professional presence amongst staff/counselors.
  • Provides on-site counselor training for all new hires.
  • Conducts chart reviews, chart audits, supervisory approval, and licensed signatures for client treatment plans and assessments.
  • Utilizes conflict resolution skills, assertiveness skills, and skills to build staff morale and cohesion, facilitate clinical staff meetings, and implement staff development plans.
  • May be required to cover a counselor’s duties and/or shifts in his/her absence that may involve weekends and all three shifts.
  • Assumes all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor and agency needs.
  • Works 40 hours per week onsite with at least one evening shift per week and occasional weekend hours required.
  • Provides 24-hour, on-call coverage via phone during hours when not physically present.
