The Clinical Coordinator for SICU/CVICU at Lexington Medical Center is responsible for providing operational shift oversight, delegating care to staff, and facilitating timely patient admission, transfer, and discharge. This role involves ongoing leadership, support, and guidance to all staff while promoting a positive image and attitude. The Clinical Coordinator will utilize a systematic critical-thinking approach to guide data gathering, assessment, nursing judgment, intervention, and evaluation of human responses to health problems. Responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the mission, vision, strategic imperatives, and standards of Lexington Medical Center, as well as the American Nurses Association Standards and the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act.

  • Establishes positive rapport with patients and families.
  • Promotes patient independence by establishing care goals and providing education.
  • Serves as patient/family advocate.
  • Maintains continuity among nursing teams through accurate documentation and communication.
  • Uses critical-thinking to guide data gathering and assessment.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to ethical decision-making processes.
  • Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and making necessary adjustments.
  • Resolves patient problems using multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities utilizing evidence-based practice.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
  • Documents all patient care activities accurately and timely.
  • Serves as a teacher, coach, and mentor to staff.
  • Contributes to the development and revision of unit standards.
  • Fosters interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
  • Coordinates timely patient throughput and facilitates smooth transitions of care.
  • Ensures patient care assignments are based on acuity and skill level.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in areas of specialty within the past 5 years.
  • Current RN license to practice in the State of South Carolina.
  • National nursing certification in specialty at time of hire or must obtain within 6 months.
  • ADN or Diploma nursing degree with enrollment in RN to BS or RN to MS program.
  • Experience in a teaching hospital setting.
