Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
  • Educational Requirement: (must meet one of the following): Bachelors degree in Nursing OR Associates degree/diploma in nursing AND a Masters degree in Nursing
  • Five (5) years of RN experience
  • Three (3) years of experience (within the last 5 years) of direct inpatient or outpatient care for an adult surgical population
  • In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) or more years of ICU experience
  • Experience with the ordering/management of DME
  • Current experience managing surgical patients in the outpatient setting
  • Ambulatory care phone triage
  • Experience providing patient education
  • Two (2) or more years of recent (in last 3 years) experience with electronic medical records, specifically EPIC
  • Computer/typing skills such as Microsoft Word and Excel

Responsibilities

  • Provide coordinated clinical care to adult patients in the General Surgery practice in Taubman Center.
  • Provide direct patient care (wound management, pre-operative and post-operative care and education and other common clinic procedures and tests) in a fast paced surgical environment.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and consultant to patients, families, nursing and medical staff.
  • Work collaboratively with patients, families, medical staff and nursing in developing and implementing recommendations for the nursing care of patients in outpatient areas.
  • Provide recommendations of surgical care supplies and equipment as appropriate.
  • Provide telephone triage, patient teaching, direct patient care, documentation with follow-up and coordination with ancillary services and related departments.
  • Coordinate clinical efforts with attending physicians, resident and fellows, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and students.
  • The candidate selected will be involved in developing and implementing standards of care and protocols to improve patient outcomes.
  • Maintain knowledge of nursing practice by utilizing current nursing and healthcare literature for information and problem solving.
  • Candidate must be able to perform duties independently, be highly motivated and flexible in order to address the needs of patients and their families.
  • Candidate should be familiar with internal and external resources for clinical assessment, decision making, care management and participate in departmental quality improvement measures as well as LEAN processes and programs.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Be willing to travel to other Surgery Clinics with the expansion of the department.
