About The Position

Clinical Bioinformatics Analyst will work under the supervision of the Supervisor, Clinical Genomic Data Analytics and Reporting to analyze complex genomic data. Typical duties include but are not limited to: multi-omic data analysis (DNA and RNA sequencing, methylation profiling, array technologies, etc.); development of algorithms and analysis tools (bioinformatics programming); data integration; evaluation and implementation of software, analytical tools, and technologies; experimental design consulting; and documentation. Characteristic distinctions from level I to level III include increased ability to work independently, increased breath of bioinformatics knowledge and tools, and increased understanding of the biological research domains. Tasks are complex, but the incumbent has support of immediate supervisor or mentor for directional support during execution of work.

Requirements

  • MS degree in Bioinformatics or relevant biological sciences degree (PhD preferred).
  • Incumbents who have not achieved Master’s degree may compensate for lack of a degree with at least five years of professional bioinformatics work experience.
  • Background of Python and R
  • Deep experience in Linux bash shell
  • Familiar with HPC (prefer Slurm) and Cloud computing environment (prefer GCP)
  • Previous experience with workflow management tools (prefer Nextflow) and Docker/Singularity container
  • Familiar with script version control and documentation with Git (prefer GitHub or Azure DevOps)
  • BS degree in Bioinformatics or relevant biological sciences degree + five years of professional bioinformatics work experience or MS degree in Bioinformatics or relevant biological sciences degree
  • Experience with Java
  • Experience with algorithm development in areas such as machine learning, genomics, statistics
  • Experience in software engineering
  • Ability to read scientific literatures in fields related to current projects
  • Ability to lead projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2 years

Nice To Haves

  • PhD degree preferable in computer science, bioinformatics, or a related field
  • Candidaes without experience in Java but with demonstrated ability to learn languages will be considered
  • Experience in other languages such as Python, Rust a plus
  • Knowledge of genetics is a plus
  • Doctorate degree
