About The Position

The OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital's pediatric urology team provides expert evaluation, diagnosis, and care for infants and children with disorders of the urinary tract, bladder, kidneys, and genitals, offering more medical and surgical services than any other pediatric urology program in Oregon. Their surgeons are board-certified, trained in surgery specific to children, and have expertise in robotic surgery. They are dedicated to state-of-the-art urologic care, surgical expertise, and research, offering advanced bladder evaluation. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position supports the clinical operations of the Pediatric Urology practice at Doernbecher and Randall Children’s Hospital. The APP works in partnership with faculty physicians, RNs, and CMAs to provide excellent clinical care and customer service in both inpatient and outpatient areas. The APP is expected to comply with their scope of practice, relevant laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and professional standards, delivering high-quality clinical care in compliance with regulatory bodies such as DNV Healthcare, The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, OHSU IRB, NIH, and all other state, federal, and institutional guidelines. Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program (for Nurse Practitioner applicants).
  • Current and Active Oregon Nurse Practitioner provider license (for Nurse Practitioner applicants).
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program (for Physician Assistant applicants).
  • Current national certification (for Physician Assistant applicants).
  • Current Oregon Physician Assistant license (for Physician Assistant applicants).
  • Prescriptive Authority (DEA License).
  • Experience in a surgical practice (Pediatric Urology preferred), but newly graduated PAs or NPs with a growth mindset will also be considered.
  • Demonstrate clinical excellence and the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and organized.
  • Ability to work as a cohesive team member and independently.
  • Possess a positive and enthusiastic attitude, an eagerness to learn the specialized background of urologic surgery (including robotic surgery), and a steadfast commitment to continued education.
  • Dedicated to furthering the field of pediatric urology through innovation and the pursuit of advanced clinical knowledge.
  • Possess excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and active listening).
  • Expected membership and participation in professional organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Operating room first assistant certification (for Nurse Practitioner).

Responsibilities

  • Support the clinical operations of the Pediatric Urology practice at Doernbecher and Randall Children’s Hospital.
  • Work in partnership with faculty physicians, RNs, and CMAs to provide excellent clinical care and customer service in the inpatient and outpatient areas.
  • Assist the Pediatric Urologists in the operating room to support maximal operating room utilization at both Doernbecher and Randall Children’s hospital.
  • Work to assure a smooth transition of patient care and education between the inpatient and outpatient arenas to decrease length of stay, improve patient outcomes and increase patient satisfaction.
  • Participate in the ongoing care of hospitalized patients on the pediatric urology service.
  • Handle pediatric urology inpatient consultations including Consult service call as needed.
  • Round with faculty physicians and residents and share responsibility for daily progress notes, orders, patient care and discharging patients.
  • When appropriate, perform history and physical exams and admission orders for patients being admitted.
  • For patients being discharged, perform the necessary discharge teaching, orders, prescriptions and prepare discharge summaries.
  • Provide daily updates to referring physicians by phone, fax or email.
  • Comply with scope of practice, other laws, regulations, OHSU policy, and other applicable professional standards of practice.
  • Provide an outstanding level of professional performance in quality of clinical care.
  • Deliver professional performance in a manner that is compliant with the regulation and guidelines of all relevant regulating bodies (i.e. DNV Healthcare, The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, OHSU IRB, NIH and all other state, federal, and institutional regulatory guidelines).
  • Treat all patients, research subjects, trainees and co-workers with dignity and respect.
