About The Position

As a clinical associate, you will provide basic clinical services to patients and clerical support to the unit health-care team. The pre-anesthesia preparation unit is a fast-paced department aimed at focusing on quality presurgical care that fosters patient safety and successful surgical outcomes. We are a 25-bed unit located on 4 South and 4 East serving the main OR, endoscopy, and other procedural areas. The preoperative phase of care includes a patient assessment, a physical preparation of the patient through performing labs, diagnostic studies, and other care items such as IV insertion and medication administration, a psychological preparation of the patient to reduce anxiety associated with having surgery, and patient teaching. Communication and interdisciplinary teamwork serve as a essential link to ensuring safe and quality patient care. This position is full time, working the day shift with every other weekend and rotating holidays

Requirements

  • Education: High school graduate or GED.
  • Experience: none
  • Licensure, certification, and/or registration: none unless the following: Critical Access Area - Certified Nursing Assistant is required.
  • Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.
  • Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication, and team-working skills. Must be organized and self -motivated. Must have knowledge of office procedure and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes and assists patients and visitors with registration.
  • May assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Coordinates patient flow into/out of area using department/unit specific software and Intranet.
  • Schedules patient therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • May review medical records for outstanding orders and notifies nurse of stat orders and medication changes.
  • Cleans unit-based equipment and gathers supplies needed to operate equipment between patients as needed.
  • Transports patients, supplies specimens and equipment within the facility.
  • May assist with chart audits.
  • May perform unit-based patient care tasks for patients.
  • May participate in the sitter process
  • Interacts with patients, visitors, physicians, and other health professionals.
  • Answers incoming calls via telephone and patient call system. Routes calls as needed and takes messages.
  • Provides scheduling coverage support for department/unit staff scheduling, including back up coverage.
  • Operates and maintains general office equipment.
  • Orders department/unit supplies and equipment and stocks/organizes supplies.
  • Serves as a resource for department/unit software system.
  • Monitors cleanliness of waiting and break rooms and performs safety/environmental rounds.
  • Assists with maintaining regulatory compliance in unit.
