About The Position

The Clinical Assistant III provides advanced administrative and clinical support within the diagnostic imaging environment. This role is responsible for preparing patients and procedure rooms, obtaining medical history and vital signs, and explaining exam processes and IV placement. The Clinical Assistant III assists technologists and radiologists with biopsy procedures and or other complex clinical tasks. The position requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask effectively in a high volume setting while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and efficient departmental workflow. This position plays an essential role in the training of new clinical assistants, patient flow, exam readiness, and high quality patient experience.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • License/Registration – Issued by Florida or Compact State
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical assistant role or related field.
  • Must maintain active certification in CNA, MA or Imaging Tech Assistant.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and clinic policies including safety, privacy and HIPAA regulations.
  • Knowledge of radiology clinical workflows and patient preparation requirements, including exam specific contraindications, safety considerations, and preprocedure information.
  • Knowledge of exam protocols, and IV related procedures, including monitoring for adverse reactions and recognizing when to escalate patient concerns.
  • Skilled in performing clinical tasks, including obtaining vital signs, and IV placement following established standards.
  • Skilled in using medical record systems, RIS/PACS, and departmental software, with accuracy in retrieving prior imaging, documenting patient information, and processing clinical data.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, compassionately, and professionally with patients, families, clinicians, and external provider offices, ensuring accurate information exchange and positive patient experiences.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively in a fast paced radiology environment, managing multiple tasks, urgent needs, and high stress situations with accuracy and composure.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clear communication to patients contributing to a compassionate, comfortable and high-quality patient experience.
  • Assist technologists and radiologists during biopsy procedures and complex clinical tasks, including patient preparation, supply handling, and procedure room support, proficient with IV placement following clinical and safety guidelines.
  • Ensures accurate labeling of specimen, sending specimen to the lab, coordinates with the lab for delivery and retrieval, and reviews after care instructions with the patients.
  • Call patients to confirm appointments and conduct prescreening interviews to verify readiness for scheduled exams, reviews schedule in advance to ensure accuracy with minimal assistance from technologist.
  • Obtain and record patient vital signs (pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight) and update information in the medical record accurately.
  • Prepare patients for exams, conducting initial review of medical history, including guiding them through changing into gowns, removing metal objects, and communicating the procedure process.
  • Prepare procedure/exam rooms, ensuring clean, organized, and properly stocked environments for technologists and radiologists.
  • Maintains a sterile environment, prepare trays and materials for exams or procedures, following established protocols and infection control standards.
  • Retrieve prior imaging studies, ensuring technologists and radiologists have complete historical information for interpretation.
  • Communicate with referring provider offices to relay report information or coordinate needs as requested.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including faxing reports, stocking and ordering supplies, scanning documents, and supporting daily departmental operations.
  • Assists the department with training of new clinical assistants and provides support to technologists and radiologists as assigned, assisting with departmental tasks, patient flow, and any additional duties needed to maintain efficient clinical operations.
