The Clinical Assistant Professor’s primary contribution centers on clinical work at UNC Horizons, where they provide direct, evidence-based behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment for pregnant and parenting patients. Their practice is grounded in trauma-responsive, family-centered care and delivered within an interdisciplinary team integrating medical, behavioral health, and peer support services. Through clinical supervision of behavioral health staff and mentorship of MSW trainees, the Clinical Assistant Professor also helps develop a skilled workforce prepared to deliver perinatal mental health and substance use treatment in integrated care settings. Complementing this clinical service, the Clinical Assistant Professor engages in research, education, and program leadership that strengthen UNC Horizons’ academic and clinical mission. They serve as Principal Investigator and key personnel on multiple grants aimed at improving outcomes for families affected by substance use disorders, supporting project oversight, implementation of evidence-based interventions, reporting, and dissemination. Their programmatic leadership advances quality improvement and promotes the integration of research into clinical practice, aligning innovation, training, and patient care to expand access and improve outcomes for patients and families.
