About The Position

The Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center will provide care for hospitalized newborns across KUMC campuses. The role includes delivering evidence-based care in inpatient settings, conducting comprehensive newborn assessments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams-including neonatology-to support patient health and safety. In addition, the Clinical Assistant Professor will play an active role in the education and training of residents, medical students, and fellows, as well as participate in departmental and divisional academic, quality improvement, and scholarly activities.

Requirements

  • MD/DO or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Board eligible (BE)/Board Certified (BC) in Pediatrics.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the State of Kansas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert, patient-centered care for hospitalized newborns across KUMC campuses.
  • Participate in delivery attendance when available, in collaboration with neonatology teams.
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations and develop individualized care plans for newborn patients.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support ongoing clinical, educational, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Educate and mentor residents, fellows, and medical students in inpatient newborn care and related areas.
  • Participate in departmental, division, and institutional meetings, seminars, and committees.
  • Maintain required certifications, including NRP, and participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, research, and quality improvement initiatives aligned with the Department's mission.
