About The Position

Under the direction of the CHHS Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Director of Nursing, the Clinical Assistant Professor (12-month appointment) and CHHS Director of Simulation and Digital Health is a faculty position housed within the School of Nursing that serves the entire College of Health and Human Services. This role provides strategic leadership in simulation-based education across undergraduate and graduate programs and advances interprofessional simulation initiatives throughout the College. The position directs simulation curriculum design; facilitates high-fidelity, standardized patient, and virtual simulation experiences; supervises SIM Center personnel; oversees student evaluation; and collaborates with faculty across departments to integrate simulation into curricula. As a 12-month Nursing faculty appointment with college-wide impact, the position includes responsibilities in simulation leadership, clinical scholarship, service, and the potential for teaching in support of CHHS’s academic and strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, or EdD) in health and human services related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in high-fidelity and virtual simulation facilitation.
  • Experience advancing interprofessional education within health and human services disciplines.
  • Experience in curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credential.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive direction for the Health Sciences Simulation Center (HSSC), establishing vision, strategic priorities, and operational goals aligned with School, College, and University strategic plans.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic plan for simulation growth, innovation, accreditation alignment, and financial sustainability.
  • Provide comprehensive leadership and administrative oversight of the Simulation Center, including supervision, support, and performance evaluation of all SIM Center personnel, and responsibility for overall operations, strategic planning, resource management, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Develop and manage the Simulation Center budget in collaboration with School and College leadership, including planning for equipment replacement cycles, technology upgrades, and expansion initiatives.
  • Advance INACSL Standards of Best Practice in simulation, accreditation standards (e.g., CCNE/ACEN), and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and use data to evaluate simulation effectiveness and learner outcomes.
  • Represent the Simulation Center in College leadership meetings, accreditation visits, external partnerships, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Develop and expand interprofessional simulation initiatives across CHHS programs.
  • Cultivate external partnerships to advance workforce development, clinical placement capacity, and potential revenue-generating simulation activities.
  • Lead and advance a program of clinical scholarship in healthcare simulation, digital health, and clinical education innovation.
  • Identify, develop, and serve as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Investigator on internal and external grant proposals that support simulation expansion, workforce development, rural health transformation, digital health innovation, and interprofessional education.
  • Proactively pursue federal, state, foundation, industry, and philanthropic funding opportunities that align with Simulation Center priorities and College strategic initiatives.
  • Disseminate findings from clinical scholarship and simulation-based research through peer-reviewed publications, professional conferences, and other relevant scholarly and practice-focused outlets to advance evidence-based education and innovation in health and human services professions training.
  • Collaborate with the CHHS Research Office and University advancement partners to build sustainable funding pipelines for simulation equipment, technology upgrades, research initiatives, and programmatic growth.
  • Maintain Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) credential and ongoing professional development.
  • Serve on School, College, and University committees.
  • Contribute to accreditation reporting and continuous improvement processes.
