About The Position

The LPN/Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting Providers (Physicians and Nurse Practitioners) with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic services. Conveys a positive image of the practice, serving as the go-between of the Provider(s) and the patient(s) and ensuring a superior patient experience.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma; Course in medical specialty, e.g., Medical Assisting.
  • Current LPN or Medical Assisting Licensure/Certification.
  • A minimum of one year work experience in a medical setting is preferred.
  • Basic Computer knowledge/experience preferred.
  • Maintains CPR and other pertinent certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Allscripts/Veradigm, electronic medical records, and electronic mail is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; initiating in office procedure authorizations, accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history into the EMR system; performing screenings per Provider guidelines; assisting Physicians/Nurse Practitioners with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent clinical information.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing the charts to ensure information has been completed and filled out appropriately.
  • Maintains an organized, and safe work environment to include the set up and break down of the Clinical station at the beginning and end of the day, ensuring OHSA guidelines are followed and met.
  • Ensures patient education materials and surgical packets are assembled and available for Providers to provide to patient(s) as appropriate. Actively stocks and maintains brochures and handouts at the Clinical station(s) and exam room(s).
  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, disinfecting and sterilizing instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms at beginning and end of both AM and PM shifts.
  • Prepares patients for CT scan, obtains patient consent, logs demographic information, and pushes DICOM images to Radiology Associates after each scan accompanied by faxed order and clinical records.
  • Reviewing the following week’s surgical cases and burning/uploading any CT Sinus discs/USBs as required by the Provider.
  • Attends all required department and company staff meetings unless approved otherwise.
  • Serves to cover the Triage line(s) when not in clinic, covering for a half or whole day shift as assigned.
  • Contributes both staff and patient feedback to the appropriate manager(s) for addressment, and actively contributes to providing a superior patient experience with every encounter.
  • All other duties as assigned.
