About The Position

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), a member of the Texas A&M University System, welcomes applicants for an Clinical Assistant/Clinical Associate Professor of Clinical Laboratory Science to begin Fall 2026. TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. Primary duties will include teaching or co-teaching didactic and laboratory courses in: hematology/hemostasis, immunohematology, genetics/molecular diagnostics, microbiology, immunology, urinalysis/body fluids, and/or laboratory operations across the curriculum; updating course materials consistent with program accreditation requirements and advances in the field; participating in curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous improvement initiatives; continuing education needed to maintain professional certification or licensure; and assisting the CLS Director. Duties also include advising and supporting students regarding academic, career, and professional development; engaging in department, college, and university committees and assigned service activities; serving as a liaison with clinical partners; and contributing to professional and community outreach as appropriate. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace. The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is actively developing a Clinical Laboratory Science program. The proposed CLS program pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate must hold a master's degree in clinical/medical laboratory science or closely related field
  • Active and current ASCP BOC certification as a medical laboratory scientist MLS(ASCP)CM (or other professional certification recognized by the department)
  • At least 3 years of full-time employment experience as a clinical/medical laboratory scientist
  • Evidence of current competence and ongoing professional development in clinical/medical laboratory science

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate in clinical laboratory science (DCLS), PhD in clinical/medical laboratory science or related field
  • Higher education teaching experience
  • National certification as a specialist in a CLS/MLS discipline
  • Advanced certification in online teaching
  • Proven familiarity with NAACLS accreditation
  • Accreditation experience in laboratory science education
  • Active in professional organizations
  • Employment experience within multiple disciplines in the CLS/MLS field
  • Passion to work with first-generation students
  • The ability to teach in multiple disciplines that complement our program

Responsibilities
