About The Position

Facilitates the patient referral process and obtains appropriate pre-certifications as requested by the provider(s).

Requirements

  • Minimum Education High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Certifications: BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of CPT coding highly preferred
  • Preferred Minimum Work Experience 2 years Medical Office experience
  • Preferred Experience with Medical Referrals

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for greeting patients; check-in, check-out, scheduling and managing telephones and messages.
  • Collects and posts co-pays, deductibles and past due patient balances at the time of service.
  • Processes all insurance referrals and/or authorizations.
  • Accurately schedules patients within established guidelines
  • Serves as a referral resource for patients, clinical and front office personnel should a patient call or be present within the office.
  • Demonstrates knowledge & efficiency in EMR computer scheduling system
  • Coordinates effectively the scheduling of procedures that required more than one department or discipline
  • Checks patients in and completes the intake process to include insurance verification and updating demographic information.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of multi-phone system, medical terminology, prioritization guidelines, correct spelling and use of approved abbreviations
  • Effectively communicates procedure times with physicians, office staff, patients, imaging, and surgery
  • Actively reviews patient flow compared to schedule; proactively seeks ways to reduce scheduling conflict or inefficiency; suggest process & procedural change.
  • Performs electronic chart pre-load process. Also scans documents to the patient electronic chart
  • Actively manages and releases surgeon block according to Surgery Scheduling policy
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
