This position involves participating in the care of patients under the supervision of the manager/director and in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Responsibilities include measuring and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examination, and administering prescribed medication.

  • Participates in the care of patients under the supervision of the manager/director.
  • Measures and records appropriate vital signs based on departmental policy and patient age.
  • Identifies abnormal values based on age and developmental level and reports findings to the appropriate medical provider.
  • Participates in clinic flow, including assisting with patient arrival, scheduling appointments, and facilitating patient exit.
  • Prepares patients for examination, treatment, and/or procedures.
  • Observes patients for signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect and reports immediately.
  • Recognizes emergencies and responds appropriately.
  • Performs non-complex procedures according to clinic policy.
  • Provides for comfort needs of patients considering age and special needs.
  • Involved in preparation and testing of equipment for safety prior to use.
  • Administers prescribed medication and/or vaccinations.
  • Collects, prepares, and secures specimens for testing.
  • Maintains medication inventory and ensures proper disposal of expired medications.
  • Documents clinical tasks, testing, and procedures in the patient medical record.
  • Maintains privacy of patient personal health information.
  • Participates in the quality improvement process.
  • Answers the telephone and routes calls promptly.
  • Valid license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Louisiana.
  • American Heart Association, Basic Life Support Health Care Provider.
