About The Position

The Clinic Receptionist greets patients and visitors, determines the nature and purpose of visits, and assists with check-in, paperwork collection, data entry, and appointment scheduling. This role involves welcoming patients and visitors, directing calls and visitors to appropriate staff, completing prompt and accurate registration, collecting payments, obtaining insurance pre-authorizations and benefits, completing insurance verification, Medicare Secondary Payer, and Advanced Beneficiary Notice. The receptionist also schedules, confirms, cancels, and reschedules appointments, thoroughly completes charts for upcoming patient visits, and efficiently utilizes EMR features. Clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, verification, and ordering supplies are also part of the role. Regular attendance and meeting ongoing competency requirements are essential.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Post secondary courses in medical terminology, word processing and/or healthcare business.
  • Experience in medical office setting or as Admitting Clerk within the last 3 years.
  • Prior experience with EMR.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors, determines the nature and purpose of visits, and assists with check-in, paperwork collection, data entry, and appointment scheduling.
  • Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting them, ascertaining the purpose of calls or visits, and directing calls and visitors to the appropriate staff.
  • Completes prompt and accurate registration for applicable patients upon their arrival.
  • Collects payments at the time of service and assures that provider-based billing requirements are met.
  • Obtains insurance pre-authorizations and benefits as needed.
  • Completes insurance verification, Medicare Secondary Payer, and Advanced Beneficiary Notice as appropriate.
  • Schedules, confirms, cancels, and reschedules appointments.
  • Thoroughly completes charts for all upcoming patient visits.
  • Competently and efficiently utilizes all features of the EMR necessary for the position.
  • Performs clerical tasks such as filing, data entry and verification, and ordering supplies.
  • Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position.
  • Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
