About The Position

Join Kansas City's leading eye care team! At Discover Vision Surgery and Laser Center, we believe in working together to provide the best eye care for our patients. We are currently hiring for a Pre-Operative Registered Nurse at our Leawood Clinic. Job Summary: Responsible for assisting the patient with all aspects of pre-operative preparations in order to promote patient-confidence in their medical care and make the surgical experience as smooth as possible. Act as a liaison between the office, surgical facility, patient, surgeon, and primary care physician. Biometry (immersion and IOLMaster), keratometry, pachymetry, and topography Understand Ophthalmic Terminology in retina, cataracts, refractive, glaucoma, lid procedures. Review medical history, check vital signs. Able to listen and assess heart and lungs. Instruct patient regarding medications, diet, eye preparation. Counsel patients in all areas of surgery, anesthesia, post-op instructions, etc. If needed, obtain medical clearance from PCP or specialist--example: cardiologist, endocrinologist etc. Prepare chart for surgery. Confirm IOL selection by surgeon. Oversee surgery schedules, case flow, and arrival times. Print and prepare surgery schedules for each surgeon. Triage phone calls. Perform advanced calculations for unusual surgery cases. Enter statistical outcomes for cataract surgeries. Hours: Monday thru Friday, 40hrs per week - Hours may vary depending on case load.

  • Current licensure as Registered Nurse, State of Kansas
