Inova Health System is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Clinic Pharmacist to join our team in Annandale, Virginia. The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring that safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies are available for patients, adhering to established policies, procedures, and protocols. This position is essential for maintaining smooth department operations and involves staffing responsibilities in the role of a Pharmacist. The successful candidate will provide education and information on pharmaceutical care and drug therapies to both patients and healthcare team members, supporting quality initiatives through effective data management and analysis. The Clinic Pharmacist will facilitate the development and implementation of treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes, and critical pathways. This role requires collaboration with medical staff to identify, resolve, implement, and communicate cost-effective medication use issues. The Pharmacist will provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners and patients, suggesting appropriate and cost-effective therapeutic alternatives as needed. Monitoring drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, adverse drug reactions, and the appropriateness of drug/dose is a key responsibility. In addition to performing all functions and duties of a Pharmacist, the Clinic Pharmacist will educate patients on pharmaceutical care and drug therapy, train and educate fellow Pharmacists regarding pharmaceutical care and pharmacoeconomics, and supervise and instruct Pharmacy students. The role also involves preparing and presenting drug reviews, MUE criteria, antibiotic sensitivity reports, adverse drug reaction reports, and pharmacy intervention summaries to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Participation in community educational programs and contributions to the advancement of the profession through presentations at local, state, and national meetings are also expected. The Clinic Pharmacist will prepare reports on pharmaceutical care and pharmacoeconomic activities as directed, coordinate the development of policies and procedures for clinical activities, and participate in the quality improvement activities of the department. Collecting and analyzing data while maintaining documentation of all clinical activities is essential, as is establishing productive and collaborative relationships with staff members, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
