About The Position

The Clinic LPN position at Mercy Physician Services, Inc. is a part-time role focused on supporting patient-centered care by assisting physicians and mid-level providers in delivering healthcare services. The LPN will utilize the nursing process to interact with patients and their families, both in-person and electronically, ensuring a smooth and efficient clinic experience.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Iowa.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with the American Heart Association.
  • Education sufficient to obtain required licensure.
  • One year of experience in a medical office preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • General knowledge of anatomy, diagnosis processes, pharmacology, physiology, and lab values.
  • Operational knowledge of medical equipment such as nebulizers, spirometers, and EKG machines.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture, EKGs, and spirometry.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares instruments, supplies, and protective devices for exams and testing prior to patient visits.
  • Rooms and prepares patients for examination, including reviewing histories, allergies, medications, and taking vitals.
  • Orders/administers injections and collects specimens for lab testing as per established standing orders.
  • Provides test results and patient instructions using pre-approved educational materials as directed by the provider.
  • Prints after-visit summaries and completes patient discharge, including scheduling follow-up appointments and providing referral information.
  • Manages phone calls to patients regarding test/lab results and provides appropriate treatment instructions as directed by the provider.
  • Processes medication requests, changes, and refills according to established protocols, with knowledge of medications and their interactions.
  • Orders and maintains adequate medical supply inventory.
  • Collects and documents urine drug screens in compliance with regulations.
  • Follows safety guidelines and promptly reports any unsafe conditions or incidents.
