About The Position

The nurse will provide professional, high‑quality nursing care in a clinic setting in accordance with physician orders, established policies, and scope of nursing practice. Responsibilities include patient intake and rooming, obtaining and documenting vital signs and clinical history, performing clinic‑based nursing procedures, administering medications as ordered, and coordinating care, referrals, and follow‑up to support patients and families throughout their visit.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold a current license to practice nursing in South Dakota.
  • Must be willing to obtain Minnesota nursing licensure or applicable border‑state license.
  • Must be BLS certified.
  • Knowledge of and appropriate application of the nursing process in the provision of patient care.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, and procedures applicable to a rural family practice setting.
  • Ability to assess the nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families across the lifespan.
  • Ability to independently seek out resources and apply evidence‑based practice while working collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, providers, and clinic staff.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Ability to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care and provider direction.
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic health record systems, including the ability to document and communicate pertinent patient information using an electronic medical record.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA and organizational privacy standards.
  • Strong communication proficiency in both clinical and professional interactions.
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Leadership ability, including clinical decision‑making, delegation, and support of clinic operations.
  • Organizational skills necessary to manage multiple responsibilities, priorities, and patient needs.
  • Presentation skills sufficient to educate patients, families, and staff as required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining and documenting vital signs, chief complaints, and relevant health history.
  • Review and update patient charts including medical history, medications, allergies, and immunization status in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Assist providers during examinations and procedures, including room setup, patient positioning, and maintaining a sterile field as needed.
  • Perform clinical procedures within scope, such as wound care, dressing changes, suture removal, ear irrigation, nail care, and basic vision/hearing screenings.
  • Administer medications and injections as ordered, including IM and subcutaneous injections, immunizations, allergy injections, and PPD/TB testing.
  • Perform CLIA-waived point-of-care testing and accurately document and report results (e.g., glucose, urinalysis, rapid tests).
  • Conduct pediatric support, including weights, vital signs, developmental screening, growth measurements, and well-child data collection.
  • Triage and respond to incoming patient phone calls, assess urgency, provide education per protocol, and route concerns appropriately to providers.
  • Coordinate care and follow-up, including scheduling referrals, relaying test results, tracking orders, and communicating with pharmacies under provider direction.
  • Provide patient education related to treatments, medications, procedures, chronic disease management, and preventive care.
  • Maintain exam rooms and clinical equipment, ensuring cleanliness, stocking supplies, and proper disinfection and sterilization.
  • Support rural clinic workflows, assisting across multiple service areas and adapting to variable patient needs and staffing demands.
  • Ensure patient safety and confidentiality, complying with HIPAA, infection control standards, and clinic policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement, staff meetings, and mandatory training, maintaining licensure, BLS certification, and required competencies.
  • Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team, including providers, nurses, ancillary staff, and external agencies, to ensure continuity of care.
  • Fosters a culture of service excellence which anticipates and responds to the needs of our customers.
  • Performs job duties and responsibilities in a manner that reflects the highest ethical and professional standards.
  • Maintains compliance with mandatory training initiatives, competencies, and licensure requirements.
  • Complies with all CDP and departmental programs, policies and procedures (i.e. administrative, HR, financial, clinical, quality, and safety policies and procedures).
  • Ensures and protects the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Complies with all federal, state, and local standards and laws regulating the provision of professional services (licensure and scope of practice).
  • Attends any mandatory trainings or meetings as required on a consistent regular basis.
