About The Position

This position has supervisory oversight of back-office workflow for UCHC clinical locations. Provides high quality direct care to patients within the clinic setting under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or provider. Clinical decision-making expectations are based on qualifications and applicable scope. Follows quality assurance and infection control procedures while meeting the physical and psychological needs of the patient. This position would require following clinic policies and procedures, ordering medical supplies, administering immunizations, and program reporting. This person would also assist with monthly/weekly schedules, monitoring/approving time off request, and ensuring clinical and support coverage for the clinic.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • One year of professional experience as LPN or 3-5 years direct patient care as Medical Assistant.
  • Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Arizona or Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Current CPR certification
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license
  • Demonstration of clinical skills and competencies as described in UCHC’s Clinical Competency assessment
  • Knowledge of policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care (and by end of Introductory Period, knowledge and fluency in UCHC patient care policies and procedures).
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Demonstrated use and knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment.
  • Able to identify problems and recommending solutions.
  • Skill in preparing and maintaining medical records and responding to correspondence.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and written.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a busy environment.
  • Ability to adjust to changing situations and needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes policies, protocols and provider and RN guidance for the administration of direct patient care to patients in accordance with standards according to all governing authorities.
  • Carry out assigned tasks in delivery and supporting direct patient care under the direction of COO and Medical Director to ensure delivery of a high quality of patient care.
  • Document procedures, medications, delivery of care, and pertinent information regarding care rendered to the patient. Reports observed changes in the patient’s physical and psychological needs and maintains accurate up to date records.
  • Maintains Patient confidentiality and protects operations by keeping information confidential according to UCHC and HIPAA policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Serves as an educator providing patient education materials, instruction and support regarding procedures, diagnostic tests, health promotion and disease prevention to patients, families and other health care members. Empowers the patient to take responsibility for their health maintenance and assists the patient at establishing goals to achieve this.
  • Obtains data necessary to deliver quality patient care from patient history, vital signs, charts, interviews, observations, physical assessment, etc., while assuring the safety, comfort and well being of the patient.
  • Complies with quality assurance, safety, infection control and emergency procedures consistent with clinic policy and procedures to ensure maintenance of a safe working practice for patient and colleagues.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Protects patients and employees by adhering to policies and procedures related to infection control, medication administration, storage procedures and controlled substance regulations Maintains stock levels of all supplies to support the smooth running of clinic.
  • Floats to other clinics or departments as needed or directed. Willingly assists co-workers when a need is identified or asked by a co-worker or supervisor.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and in in-service and outside training as appropriate or required and completes personal and professional development plan items to maintain skills and develop personal growth through training and education.
  • Participates in inter-disciplinary task forces and work groups as relevant.
  • Maintains monthly/weekly schedules and makes changes as appropriate.
  • Assists in orientation and training of new staff and/or student externs as appropriate
  • Case Management: Responsible for guiding clinic delivery of care management plan to patient population. Coordinate effort of Mas and providers to document needs, plan, and services of patients. Refer to RN case manager as appropriate.
  • Medication refills: assist medication refill nurse to obtain needed follow-up from patient or provider.
  • Lab reconciliation: coordinates the investigation of lab bills presented to patient or clinic for proper coding and/or insurance information in conjunction with rendering provider.
  • Participates in and complies with Quality Improvement initiatives and on-going continuous improvement efforts as appropriate.
  • All other duties as assigned.
