Requirements

  • Active and current California Registered Nurse license
  • Current CPR certification

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with exams and procedures that are carried out by providers. RNs taking part in these procedures should not go beyond the skills covered in RNs school or the allowable activities listed in this document.
  • Coordinates patient flow, and daily patient care tasks.
  • Ability to oversee and delegate responsibilities to all clinical staff and promote teamwork.
  • Completes day to day management of PTO requests, sick call coverage, updates and maintains timecards for assigned staff [Supervisory role], for medical clinical support staff.
  • Provides supervision to Caregiver that support Tribal Families, and completes the day-to-day management of PTO, coverage, and updates timecards for the caregivers for tribal families.
  • Completes initial and annual competency for Medical clinical support staff.
  • Triages patients in person or via telephone appropriately and completes triage documentation with proper grammar and spelling by end of business day.
  • Monitors quality of care through direct observation, ensures that appropriate logs are kept including medication inventory, sample medication, oxygen tank pressure, refrigerator/freezer/ temperatures, immunization inventory, glucometer quality control logs, exam room check lists, and crash cart.
  • Ordering clinic supplies, vaccines, and medications as needed.
  • Intake of patients including taking all vital signs, and performing physical assessments on patients. Performing visual acuity, audiometry.
  • Preparing patients for examinations or procedures.
  • Applying basic and complex dressings.
  • Administering medications orally, topically, vaginally, rectally, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, pulmonary treatments, and intradermal. Administering drop to the nose, eye, and ear.
  • Administering an anesthetic only if it is being used as diluent.
  • Performing skin tests (tuberculin). Reading and interpreting PPD (tuberculin) skin tests.
  • Phone prescriptions to pharmacies after the provider has reviewed and approved them.
  • Counting and logging medication inventories, vaccine inventories.
  • Performing electrocardiograms.
  • Completes nurse visits.
  • Apply DME orthotics, measuring for crutches, and education to patients on proper use.
  • Teaching patients exercise, hygiene, medication and dietary information per provider instructions.
  • Relaying written or verbal instruction or information from provider regarding abnormal test results to patients after they are reviewed by providers.
  • Taking telephone or verbal orders from providers.
  • Administering oxygen therapies per masks or cannulas as prescribed.
  • Obtaining throat and nasal sinus cultures, and suctioning patients for sputum cultures.
  • Applying warm and cold compresses.
  • Performs ear lavages, removing sutures and staples.
  • Acting as supervisor when provider not on site. Provides counseling to staff as appropriate.
  • Actively provides willingness to help and maintain professional relationships with coworkers.
  • Performs other duties as needed within scope of practice.
  • Attends all staff meetings and participates in committee/s as assigned.
  • Observes and acknowledges all Sycuan Health Center policies and procedures.
  • Always greets patients, visitors and providers in a courteous and respectful manner; responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills; consistently handles all requests in a positive manner.
