About The Position

The Clinic Assistant supports the School Nurse in providing health care services, performs clerical duties, screenings, and manages school clinics independently as needed. Spotsylvania County Public Schools is comprised of 31 schools and serves a diverse student population of over 24,000, making it one of the largest School Divisions in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current (valid, not expired) certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) from the State of Virginia
  • Current (valid, not expired) BLS CPR certification
  • Ability to meet and maintain all certification requirements as set forth by the Commonwealth of Virginia

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an acute care setting, providing health care services to children and adolescents
  • Experience working with Registered Nurses

Responsibilities

  • Supports the School Nurse in the management and daily operation of the school clinic
  • Tends to the health needs of students as directed by the School Nurse
  • Supports the School Nurse with the management of medical emergencies and school health program by performing health screenings throughout the division
  • Assists with the review, updating and maintenance of the cumulative health record for all students under the direction and supervision of the School Nurse
  • Assists in maintaining an efficient flow and cleanlinesss of the clinic
  • Complies with all district and school policies and regulations
  • Participates in professional development as required by the School Division, personal certification requirements, and the Health Services department
  • Independently manages school clinics as needed throughout the division as assigned by the Director of Health Services
