About The Position

The Pediatric Occupational Therapist position is a full-time role at a busy outpatient clinic within Methodist Medical Center, which offers a wide range of specialties and advanced medical care. The therapist will be responsible for planning, evaluating, and implementing treatment programs for occupational therapy patients while maintaining a patient load. Additional responsibilities include program development, staff training, and providing consultation in their area of expertise.

Requirements

  • Must have sufficient education to meet the standards for Tennessee State Occupational Therapy Licensure.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience with at least three (3) years in a specialty area.
  • Sensory Integration background is a plus.
  • Must have and maintain Tennessee State Occupational Therapy Licensure.
  • Achievement of at least one (1) of the following at time of hire: advanced degree in specialty area, advanced degree associated with specialty area, or professionally recognized certification in specialty area.
  • Completion of 100 hours (10.0 CEUs) of continued education.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced clinical practice including evaluation and specialized treatment of patients.
  • Conduct patient evaluations (initial, progress, and discharge), establish treatment plans, make recommendations, and set goals based on patient needs and evidence-based practice.
  • Meet established targets for passive/active treatment ratios.
  • Involve patients and families in treatment, education, and goal setting; coordinate with other medical personnel regarding patient progress, needs, and discharge planning.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and competency in providing for age-specific needs of the population served.
  • Serve as a resource person for staff and senior staff on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide 8 hours of education/mentorship time per year, including peer counseling, community lectures, and orientation of new staff.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate standards of care and evidence-based practice.
  • Maintain and update patient documentation in accordance with professional, departmental, organizational, and payer guidelines.
  • Meet established targets for quality/outcome measures, service/patient satisfaction measures, financial/productivity measures, and growth/patients-per-day measures.
  • Demonstrate leadership in developing and implementing new and current programs.
  • Participate in training, orientation, and supervision of support staff.
  • Act as Clinical Instructor for at least one student per year.
  • Participate in peer evaluations for competency assessment.
  • Assist with continuing education courses hosted by Covenant Health.
  • Participate in professional organization meetings (TOTA, AOTA).
  • Volunteer for Covenant Health activities such as marathons and employee education.
  • Complete partnering activities per established targets per month.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards, and complete required education assignments annually.
  • Maintain mental alertness and concentration with attention to detail for prolonged periods.
  • Provide safe, efficient, competent care to the assigned population.
