A Nurse Informaticist is a registered nurse who transforms data into needed information and leverages technologies to improve health and healthcare equity, safety, quality, and outcomes. They have specialized knowledge and expertise in health informatics, a multidisciplinary field that combines nursing science with information management and analytical sciences. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to implementing and optimizing health information systems, data management and analytics, training and education, quality improvement, project management, policy and compliance, communication, and research as applied to improving patient care and optimizing nursing workflows. Under supervision, the candidate will coordinate and support the integration of Transplant EMR applications, such as the Phoenix module, into Transplant operations and reporting. Advance the Transplant Center's strategic goals and achieve clinical, service, and quality objectives. This position optimizes Transplant informatics services, application function, data accuracy, quality reporting, associated processes and end user efficiencies. Collaborates with Michigan Medicine HITS informatics and application teams and coordinating secondary informatics training for end user education. This role will also provide input into the design of systems to support multidisciplinary team functioning, care coordination, data analysis, and continuity of services within the University of Michigan Transplant Center & associated Transplant Programs. This position will also provide operational guidance to stakeholders and end users in the implementation of new systems and applications.

  • Advance the ongoing optimization and management of Transplant EMR application, Epic Phoenix (Transplant).
  • Aid HITS and Transplant application team(s) in the translation of complex Transplant practices and requirements used to resolve open issue tickets.
  • Participates in multiple aspects of electronic health record development and implementation.
  • Lead or assist in the prioritization and resolution of open issue tickets.
  • Support ongoing build, validation, and post-implementation of Epic Phoenix (Transplant) module for clinical and business operations.
  • Provides support to clinical end-users and acts as liaison between Transplant Center, HITS and Transplant EMR application team(s).
  • Investigate, analyze, develop, and implement a corrective action plan that effectively addresses application issues and process enhancements.
  • Functions as Transplant Center liaison when there are related interdepartmental issues or discussions regarding operational and technical issues.
  • Optimize Transplant EMR application's required regulatory reporting capabilities and contributory processes.
  • Provide guidance in current state analyses, creation and revision of operational workflows, technical readiness, conversion of data, and reporting.
  • Assist in the development, management and ongoing enhancement of a reliable, accurate, and efficient quality and performance reporting system.
  • Effectively uses, interprets, applies and communicates data and information from multiple sources which affect Transplant Services.
  • Assess operational issues, develops a framework for analyses, make recommendations, establish work plans, and implements improvements.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to assess, inform, educate, and continually improve effectiveness and productivity of clinical and business programs.
  • Perform end user support, workflow optimization and maintenance, and training for specific practices, clinicians and support staff as needed.
  • Anticipates and identifies complex transplant clinical and business processes and informatics issues.
  • Participates as a member of various project workgroups, attends meetings as required.
  • Supports innovation in clinical practice, care delivery systems, and healthcare operations by staying current with innovations and literature in healthcare informatics and care delivery.
  • Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in department, hospital and Medical System patient safety and regulatory initiatives.
  • RN (Registered Nurse) Licensure in the state of Michigan
  • BSN or RN with Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Understanding of workflow analysis
  • Understanding of the System Development Life Cycle
  • Understanding of project management tools, terminology, and stages
  • Ability to prioritize work and take part in multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to work in a dynamic development environment and adjust to constantly changing priorities, processes, and project plans
  • Willingness and strong aptitude to learn innovative technologies and assume increasing responsibilities
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams of all sizes
  • Exceptional relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Master's degree in informatics or 5+ years' relevant experience
  • ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) board certification in Nursing Informatics (NI-BC) or other nursing informatics or project management certification (PMP, or LEAN Six Sigma)
  • Experience with Epic software
  • Transplant experience highly desired
  • Project management experience strongly desired
  • Familiarity with Service Now
  • Experience in implementing healthcare technology solutions
  • Background in clinically focused projects and knowledge of impacts to patient care, workflows, roles, and clinical governance
  • Acquired an Epic certification (Ambulatory or Phoenix highly desired)
