About The Position

Your main priority is to provide a safe and fun environment for the IC community. In addition to safety and technical instruction, our focus during open hours is to develop a professional culture. You are partly a technical supervisor and partly a social coordinator! The atmosphere needs to be safe, professional, and enjoyable. Other possible duties consist of route setting and creating climbing classes.

Requirements

Be cheerful, and courteous
Keep an eye on the boulder line
Create an inclusive environment
Work shirts must be worn during your shift. Other clothing should promote an inclusive and welcoming environment
Never leave the wall area unattended while climbers are present
Do not promote unsafe behavior such as free soloing
Must be available evenings

Responsibilities

Enforce climbing wall safety policies
Open and close the wall, maintain climbing wall appearance
Know eligibility rules: age limits, liability waivers, etc.
Administer belay tests and belay climbers if there are at least two monitors on duty
Oversee all belayers and climbers at the wall, make sure they are climbing safely
Check carabiners and knots for climbers on top rope and auto-belay
Act as a rep for Recreational Sports, OREC, and available climbing classes
Complete maintenance logs and mark damaged equipment for the Wall Coordinator
Make note of any loose holds for the Wall Coordinator
Help keep the wall clean and equipment sanitized
Bi-weekly meetings with the Fitness manager
Attend Fitness Center All Staff Trainings
Above all, ensure a pleasant climbing environment
