About The Position

Join an innovative team of educators supporting students with special needs in a unique and specialized setting attached to a community school. To meet the needs of students with complex learning and developmental needs, Lewiston Schools has established a multidisciplinary intensive education program designed to support students with individualized programming while encouraging them to benefit from their peers and offer access to naturalistic teaching settings. This role is part of a highly supported team building on a strong programmatic structure for all classrooms with opportunities to individualize and innovate. The special educators will help to create a flexible class environment favorable to learning and personal independence; to establish meaningful social interaction with peers; to motivate students to strengthen social, executive functioning, and foundational learning skills needed for success in their elementary grade education. This role offers many opportunities for team collaboration and family outreach in order to best help students generalize their learning across settings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Valid Teaching Certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and evaluates the accomplishments of students' academic and social growth using standardized and curriculum-based measures, paired with on-going data collection and analysis.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material, providing individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Communicates regularly with parents in monthly student meetings as well as newsletters, notes, phone calls, etc.
  • Creates a learning environment that encourages student independence using evidenced based practice and data-based decision making.
  • Leads a team of Ed. Techs/BHPs: Providing coaching and modeling around classroom and individualized programming. Coordinating schedules within and across days.
  • Works with a multidisciplinary team to collaboratively design individualized supports.
  • Maintains compliance with all assessment, progress monitoring and IEP reporting standards.
